Carnival Hour Plays

New format:
Length 50 – 75 minutes
Professional feedback for top ten scripts
Professional workshopping of winning scripts

Aspiring and experienced Australian playwrights are invited to submit
unpublished and unperformed play scripts to the annual Carnival of Flowers
Toowoomba Repertory Theatre Play Writing Competition

Toowoomba Rep. has initiated this competition to foster and encourage new
and experienced playwrights, whether amateur or professional.

The play scripts will be judged anonymously by an experienced reading panel
who will establish a short list of ten.  The shortlisted plays will then be evaluated
by three industry professionals who will prepare written feedback to the playwrights
on their scripts, as well as providing guidance for the selection of the two winners of our competition.

The two winning plays will be work shopped over a weekend in June,
with the playwrights and production team present, led by a professional Dramaturg,
to bring the draft scripts to the stage of being production-ready.
Based on the outcomes of the workshop process, the playwright may then modify the script
as he/she sees fit and is the final arbiter of the script.
The winning plays will be performed during the 2017 Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers
 for a six night season.

The two winning playwrights will be awarded cash prizes
on the final performance evening, as follows
Best play $ 4000
Second best play $ 2000
